Wyze Camera Setup and Offline Fixes
Wyze cameras connect straight to your Wi-Fi with no hub, so almost every setup failure or “offline” message traces back to power, the 2.4 GHz band, signal strength or a router that merges its bands. This guide covers setup, what the status light means, and the fixes Wyze’s own help center lists, in the order Wyze suggests. Steps use Wyze Cam v4 as the main example; other models are similar, and Wyze publishes model-specific articles where they differ.

Quick answers
- Most Wyze cams need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Wyze says most of its devices only work on a 2.4 GHz WPA/WPA2 network. Wyze Cam v4 is not compatible with 5 GHz (What kind of Wi-Fi network or router do I need?, Wyze Cam v4 Setup Troubleshooting).
- Combined-band routers are the usual setup blocker. Wyze names Band Steering, Smart Connect and single-name (single SSID) mesh systems as common causes and suggests temporarily splitting the bands (Troubleshooting Wyze Cam Connectivity Issues on Dual-Band Routers).
- A live view that loads means the camera is not really offline. Wyze says that if the stream loads, the camera is connected (My camera is offline in the Wyze app).
- Remove the microSD card before a factory reset or Wi-Fi change (Wyze Cam v4 Connectivity Troubleshooting, How do I change my Wi-Fi details?).
- Offline cameras cannot be fixed remotely. Someone has to power cycle the camera or router in person (My camera is offline and I’m away from home).
How to set up a Wyze Cam
Wyze’s setup steps for Wyze Cam v4 (Wyze Cam v4 Setup Guide):
- Update the Wyze app and turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- In the app, tap Home, then the + sign, then Device, Cameras, Wired Camera, and pick Wyze Cam v4.
- Plug in the camera and single-press the SETUP button. Wait for the “ready to connect” voice prompt, check the box in the app and tap Begin Setup.
- Allow the Bluetooth connection when prompted.
- Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Wait for the camera to say setup is complete, then name the camera.
Wyze asks that the phone be connected to the same Wi-Fi network you pick during setup, and that the camera and phone stay within 6 to 10 feet of the router while it connects (Wyze Cam v4 Setup Troubleshooting).
What the Wyze Cam v4 status light means
From Wyze’s status light article (Wyze Cam v4 status light):
| Light | When | What Wyze says it means |
|---|---|---|
| Solid red | During setup | Powered on and starting up |
| Flashing red | During setup | Ready to connect |
| Flashing red and blue | During setup | Connecting |
| Flashing blue | During setup | Connected and finishing setup |
| Solid blue | Any time | Working normally |
| Solid red | After setup | Someone is viewing the live stream or the camera is recording |
| Quickly flashing red | After setup | The siren is sounding |
You can turn the light off under Settings, then Advanced Settings, then Camera Status Light. A dark light on a camera you switched off this way is not a fault.
Fix setup failures
Wyze’s setup troubleshooting list for Wyze Cam v4 (Wyze Cam v4 Setup Troubleshooting), in order:
- Update the Wyze app. You can see your version under Account, then About.
- Check the light and voice prompt. After pressing SETUP, the light should flash red and the camera should say “ready to connect.”
- Check phone permissions. Turn Bluetooth on for the Wyze app and set Location to Always or While Using the App. On iPhone, turn on Precise Location.
- Use the right network. The phone must be on the same 2.4 GHz network you enter. The network name is case-sensitive and should have no spaces before or after it.
- Check the password. Tap the eye icon to see what you typed.
- Move closer. Keep the camera and phone within 6 to 10 feet of the router.
- Forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi network on your phone, then try again.
- Power cycle the camera by unplugging it for 5 seconds.
- Factory reset and set it up as new (steps below).
For Wyze Cam Pan v4, Wyze also suggests temporarily turning off any VPN on the phone or router (Wyze Cam Pan v4 Setup Troubleshooting).
Dual-band and mesh routers
Wyze says routers that combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, or switch between them, can stop a camera from finding and pairing with the 2.4 GHz network. It lists ISP gateways from Xfinity, AT&T and Cox, mesh systems such as TP-Link Deco, Google Nest Wifi, eero and NETGEAR Orbi, and routers with Smart Connect as common examples (Troubleshooting Wyze Cam Connectivity Issues on Dual-Band Routers).
Wyze’s three tips:
- Temporarily split the bands. In the router app or web page, look for Band Steering, Smart Connect or Single SSID, and give the two bands different names, such as MyWiFi_2.4 and MyWiFi_5G. Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz name and run setup again.
- Move farther from the router. 5 GHz has a shorter range, so your phone may fall back to 2.4 GHz on its own.
- Temporarily turn off 5 GHz, set up the camera, then turn 5 GHz back on. Wyze says the camera should stay on 2.4 GHz afterward.
Wyze notes its own Wyze Mesh Router merges the bands but does not need splitting. If you cannot split bands on your router, Wyze points you to the router maker’s or ISP’s support site. For router steps, see our guides to eero, TP-Link Deco and Google Nest Wifi.
Wyze also says its cameras will not work on networks with a sign-in page or ones that need a username as well as a password, such as hotel and airport Wi-Fi, and do not support WEP security (What kind of Wi-Fi network or router do I need?).
Fix a camera that shows offline
Wyze’s general offline steps (My camera is offline in the Wyze app, Wyze Cam v4 Connectivity Troubleshooting):
- Check the status light. No light after powering up points to a power problem: try another outlet, cable and adapter.
- Check your other devices. If other smart home devices on the same Wi-Fi are also offline, the problem is the network, not the camera.
- Update the app and firmware. Firmware updates are under Account, then Firmware Update.
- Check signal strength under the camera’s settings, then Device Info, then Signal Strength. Wyze says to move the camera closer to the router if it shows fewer than 2 bars.
- Reboot the router.
- Power cycle the camera by unplugging it for 5 seconds and plugging it back in.
- Factory reset and set it up as new.
For slow or dropping live streams, Wyze suggests trying a lower image quality, such as SD or 360p, and running a speed test. Its minimum upload speeds for streaming are 1–2 Mbps for SD and 4–7 Mbps for HD (My camera is offline in the Wyze app).
Offline while you are away
Wyze says there are no remote fixes for an offline camera: the app cannot reach a device that is not on Wi-Fi, and Wyze Support cannot connect to your devices. Wi-Fi Wyze devices try to reconnect on their own, but after several failed attempts, such as after a long outage, they stop trying until they are power cycled (My camera is offline and I’m away from home).
Wyze’s suggestions are to ask someone you trust to power cycle the camera and router, or, if the camera is plugged into a smart plug that is still online, to switch the plug off and back on. That is one practical reason to run an indoor camera from a smart plug.
How to factory reset a Wyze Cam v4
Wyze’s reset steps (Wyze Cam v4 Connectivity Troubleshooting):
- Remove the microSD card if one is installed. Wyze says you must remove it before resetting.
- Make sure the camera is plugged in and powered on.
- Pull the base away from the bottom of the camera to reach the SETUP button.
- Press and hold SETUP for 10 seconds, until the status light turns red. A single press will not reset it.
- When the light starts flashing red, the reset is done.
A reset clears the camera’s settings and saved Wi-Fi but keeps the current firmware. You then set it up as a new device. Wyze Cam Pan v4 uses a 10 to 20 second hold (Wyze Cam Pan v4 Setup Troubleshooting).
Moving a Wyze Cam to a new router or password
Wyze sends your Wi-Fi details to the camera during setup, so a new network name or password means setting the camera up again (How do I change my Wi-Fi details?). Wyze’s tips:
- New router? Reuse the old network name and password and the cameras may reconnect without changes.
- Remove the microSD card first, and connect to 2.4 GHz rather than 5 GHz on a dual-band router.
- Do not delete the camera from the app before setting it up again.
- For most cameras, tap Home, then +, then Device, then Cameras, pick your model and follow the prompts.
- Some models, including Wyze Cam v3, v3 Pro and Pan v4, have a Change option next to Network under the camera’s Device Info. Wyze says this only works while the camera is still online; if it is already offline, press SETUP and set it up again.
Which Wyze cameras support 5 GHz?
Wyze lists Battery Cam Pro, Cam Floodlight Pro and Video Doorbell Pro as dual-band (What kind of Wi-Fi network or router do I need?), and its Pan v4 setup article says Wyze Cam Pan v4 works with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (Wyze Cam Pan v4 Setup Troubleshooting). Even so, Wyze’s troubleshooting basics recommend 2.4 GHz for cameras that support both (Wyze Cam Troubleshooting Basics), since it reaches farther through walls.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my Wyze camera keep going offline?
Wyze points to power or network interruptions, weak signal, an out-of-date app or firmware, and routers that combine bands. Check the status light, confirm other devices are online, look at Signal Strength under Device Info, reboot the router and power cycle the camera.
Does Wyze Cam work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Most Wyze cameras, including Wyze Cam v4, only work on 2.4 GHz. Wyze lists Battery Cam Pro, Cam Floodlight Pro and Video Doorbell Pro as dual-band, and Wyze Cam Pan v4 also supports 5 GHz.
Why can't my Wyze Cam find my Wi-Fi?
Usually the router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name. Wyze suggests temporarily giving the bands different names or turning off 5 GHz during setup, then turning it back on.
What does a solid red light on a Wyze Cam v4 mean?
During setup, it means the camera is powered and starting. After setup, Wyze says solid red means someone is viewing the live stream or the camera is recording.
How do I reset a Wyze Cam v4?
Remove the microSD card, then with the camera powered on, hold the SETUP button on the bottom for 10 seconds until the light turns red. When it flashes red, set it up as new. Firmware is kept.
How do I connect my Wyze Cam to a new router?
Wyze says to reuse the same network name and password if you can. Otherwise, remove the microSD card and set the camera up again from Home, +, Device, Cameras without deleting it first.
Can I bring a Wyze camera back online remotely?
No. Wyze says an offline camera cannot be reached from the app. If it is powered from a smart plug that is still online, switching the plug off and on may bring it back.
What upload speed does Wyze need?
Wyze lists 1–2 Mbps upload for SD streaming and 4–7 Mbps for HD.
