eero Setup and Troubleshooting Guide
Amazon eero mesh systems set up in a few minutes with the eero app, and most of the time the status light just glows white. When it turns red, flashes yellow or keeps blinking blue, or the app says your network is offline, it helps to know what eero itself says the light means. This guide explains every eero light, how to set up and add eeros, and how to fix an offline network or a single offline eero. Every LED meaning and step comes from eero's official help center, which we link so you can check the details. We also suggest a few eero products if you need more coverage.

Quick answers
- Solid red on every eero: your internet connection is down. Open the eero app, check your modem and restart it.
- Solid red on one eero: that eero has lost its link to your network. Power-cycle it and move it closer to another eero.
- Flashing yellow: a power problem. Use the original adapter and cable.
- Flashing blue: ready to pair with the app, or looking for internet after a soft reset.
- Solid white but nothing works: power-cycle the eero, then try a soft reset.
What the eero lights mean
From eero's LED color guide. When everything works, the light is solid white (unless you turned it off in the app). eero notes that eero Signal uses different colors.
| Light | What eero says it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No light | No power, or the LED has been turned off | Check power, or check Status light in the app. |
| Solid white | Online | Nothing to fix. |
| Flashing white | Connecting | Wait; it can take up to two minutes after a restart. |
| Solid blue | Ready for setup | Continue in the eero app. |
| Flashing blue | Bluetooth pairing | Open the app to set it up or add it (see below). |
| Solid aqua | Using Hotspot internet | Your main connection is down and Hotspot Backup is in use. |
| Flashing aqua | Identifying Zigbee devices | Wait for it to finish. |
| Solid green | Power saving | Normal if you use power saving. |
| Flashing green | Multiple eero devices identified | Follow the app prompts. |
| Flashing yellow or orange | Power supply problem | Use the original adapter and cable (see below). |
| Solid red | Offline | Check your internet or that eero’s connection (see below). |
| Flashing red | Resetting | Wait; it will return to flashing blue for setup. |
You can change the brightness or turn off the light in the app (tap the eero on the Home tab, then Status light), but only while that eero is online with a solid white light. eero says the light comes back at full brightness whenever the eero is offline, rebooting or resetting (LED settings).
How to set up a new eero network
Setup happens entirely in the eero app (iOS 15 or Android 9.0 or later). eero's setup guide steps:
- Unplug your existing modem and router. Note your old Wi-Fi name and password; reusing them lets many devices reconnect automatically.
- Connect the included Ethernet cable from your eero to your modem, fiber ONT or modem-router combo. The first (gateway) eero must have an Ethernet port.
- Power on the modem and the eero. The eero's light blinks white as it starts.
- The app connects the eero to the cloud (you may be asked for its serial number) and the light turns solid blue.
- Pick a location name, then create your Wi-Fi name and a password of at least 8 characters.
- Tap Add another eero to add more units now, or Finish Setup.
If the app says "Cannot connect to the internet," eero suggests unplugging every Ethernet cable from your modem, connecting the eero's cable to the modem's WAN or Internet port until it clicks, then unplugging the modem for 30 seconds and waiting for its lights to stay solid (3 to 5 minutes). If your provider gave you a username and password or other settings, enter them in the app's internet settings first (eero help).
Fixing "eero offline": the whole network is down
eero's offline network guide says a red light usually means a problem with the connection from your internet provider. Start in the app: on the Home tab, an offline network shows Offline in red with "Troubleshoot your connection." Tap it to have the app diagnose the problem. Your phone needs to be on your eero Wi-Fi to see the details, even while the network is offline.
- Unplug every Ethernet cable from your modem except the one going to your gateway eero.
- Unplug the modem or fiber ONT from power for at least 3 minutes, and check the cable to the gateway is snug in the right port (often labeled LAN or Ethernet).
- Plug the modem back in and wait for it to come back online, which can take 5 to 10 minutes.
- Restart the gateway eero and wait for a solid white light.
- Still offline? Try a different Ethernet cable and repeat.
If your provider needs a static IP, PPPoE or a VLAN ID, enter it exactly as given under Settings > ISP Settings. If the app cannot get a WAN IP address, reach your router's IP or resolve DNS, eero says to check your provider's site for an outage. With an eero Plus subscription, Hotspot Backup (Home tab > Internet) can help keep you online while you wait.
Fixing one eero that is red or offline
From eero's red LED guide:
Wireless eero
- Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
- If the red light returns, move it closer to another eero.
- Soft reset the gateway eero (see the reset section).
- Or connect it to another eero with an Ethernet cable.
Wired eero
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the offline eero and plug it into a laptop. If the laptop gets internet, the problem is likely the eero: power-cycle it for 30 seconds, try another port or cable, then soft reset it. If the laptop has no internet, the problem is the cable, the port or your connection: try another cable and port, and confirm the gateway eero is online. As a temporary workaround, you can remove the cable and place the eero within range of another eero so it connects wirelessly (except the eero PoE Gateway, which must stay wired).
Flashing yellow (power)
eero's flashing yellow guide says to check the adapter and cable for damage, reconnect with the adapter that came with your eero, plug it firmly into both ends and try another outlet. For PoE-powered eeros, check the cable, try another PoE port and confirm your switch meets the model's power requirements.
Solid white, but devices have no internet
eero's solid white guide says to unplug the eero for 30 seconds and give it 2 minutes, then try a soft reset, and only then a hard reset. If one device is offline while others work, its device offline guide suggests restarting the device, checking it is not paused or blocked in the app, forgetting and rejoining the network, looking for a duplicate Wi-Fi name from your provider's router, and moving closer to an eero. You can check signal with Settings > Troubleshooting > Coverage Scan; eero suggests aiming for three bars or more.
How to add another eero
From eero's add or remove guide: open the eero app, go to the Home tab and tap the blue plus icon, then choose Add indoor eero (or Add outdoor eero for eero Outdoor 7). Plug the new eero in; it blinks white, then blinks blue while the app finds it over Bluetooth, so stay close to it. When it turns solid blue, the app runs a placement test (move it closer to another eero if it says placement could be better or out of range), then you pick a location name and it registers.
Wired eeros join automatically with Simple Setup. On eero 6+, eero 6, eero Pro 6E and the eero 7 family, you can enable eero Simple Setup (Settings > Advanced networking > eero Simple Setup); a new eero wired into your network then joins without app pairing. eero warns that any eligible eero someone plugs into your network will join while it is on (Simple Setup).
Placement: eero suggests placing a new eero between a dead spot and an existing eero, keeping it out of cabinets and from behind or under large furniture, and away from large electronics and metal. Any eero with an Ethernet port can also connect to another eero by Ethernet (wired backhaul). For more on dead spots, see our Wi-Fi dead zones guide.
Using eero with your provider's router
eero's bridge mode guide recommends putting your provider's modem-router into bridge mode if possible. If you must keep it routing, you can put your eeros in bridge mode: Settings > Advanced networking > DHCP & NAT, then switch from Automatic to Bridge. eero does not generally recommend this because you lose advanced features, including some eero Plus tools (Advanced security, Ad Blocking, Content Filters and Hotspot Backup), and one eero must stay wired.
Restart, soft reset or hard reset
eero recommends simple steps first, like unplugging for 30 seconds (reboot and reset guide). Make sure the eero has been on for at least 90 seconds before resetting.
- Restart one eero: Home tab > tap the eero > more options > Restart, or press the reset button once. Restarting the gateway takes the network offline briefly.
- Restart the whole network: Settings > Advanced networking > more options > Restart Network.
- Soft reset: hold the reset button until the light flashes yellow (no longer than 8 seconds). It keeps the eero on your network with its settings.
- Hard reset: hold until the light flashes red (about 15 seconds). It erases the eero and removes it from your network; it then flashes blue, ready to set up again. Removing an eero in the app does the same. Hard resetting or removing the gateway takes the whole network offline.
The reset button is on the bottom of eero 6, 6+, Pro 6E and eero 7, and on the back of eero Pro 7 and Max 7.

Frequently asked questions
What does a solid red light on my eero mean?
eero's help center says a red LED means the eero is not receiving an internet connection. If every eero is red, the problem is usually between your modem and your gateway eero or with your internet provider. If only one eero is red, it has usually lost its connection to the rest of your eero network.
What does a flashing red light mean?
Flashing red means the eero is resetting. eero says to hold the reset button until the light flashes red (about 15 seconds) only when you want a hard reset, which removes that eero from your network and returns it to factory settings.
Why is my eero light flashing yellow?
eero says flashing yellow usually means the eero is not getting enough power. Use the power adapter and cable that came with your eero, check them for damage, plug them in firmly and try another wall outlet. For PoE-powered models, check the Ethernet cable and that your PoE switch or injector meets the model's power requirements.
Why is my eero flashing blue?
Flashing blue means the eero is broadcasting Bluetooth and is ready to pair with the eero app during setup. If it starts flashing blue after a soft reset, eero says it is usually looking for an internet connection: check that your modem is online and the cable to the gateway eero is secure.
What is the difference between a soft reset and a hard reset?
A soft reset (hold the reset button until the light flashes yellow, no longer than about 8 seconds) reboots the eero but keeps it on your network with its settings. A hard reset (hold until it flashes red, about 15 seconds) erases that eero and removes it from your network. Hard resetting the gateway eero takes your network offline.
Can I mix eero 7 with older eeros?
Yes. eero says eero 7 is backward compatible with previous generations of eero, so you can add a new unit to an existing network. eero also notes that combining older generation eeros on the same network may reduce performance.
Can I use eero with my provider's router?
Yes. You can connect your gateway eero to the provider's modem-router, and eero recommends putting that equipment in bridge mode if it can be. If not, you can put your eeros in bridge mode (Settings > Advanced networking > DHCP & NAT > Bridge), but you lose advanced features, including some eero Plus tools.
