Reolink Camera Setup and Offline Fixes

Reolink Wi-Fi cameras connect in one of two ways during setup: the camera scans a Wi-Fi QR code shown on your phone, or you plug it into the router with an Ethernet cable and choose Wi-Fi afterwards. When a camera later shows “Connection Failed”, “Device Disconnected” or goes offline, Reolink’s support center points to a short list of causes: power, the phone or network you are viewing from, a wrong Wi-Fi password, router settings, weak signal and the Wi-Fi band. This guide follows Reolink’s own steps, in the order Reolink suggests.

Quick answers

First checks when a camera goes offline

Reolink’s offline guide applies to all Reolink cameras (Reolink: Resolving camera offline issues):

StepWhat to do
1. PowerConfirm the camera is on. In low light the IR lights or spotlight should come on; if not, check the power supply or try another one.
2. Your phone or PCSwitch your phone between Wi-Fi and mobile data, try the Reolink Client instead of the app (or the reverse), or use another phone. Check VPN settings, and use the latest app.
3. Stream modeSwitch between Clear and Fluent in live view; Fluent needs less bandwidth.
4. RestartPower-cycle the camera and the router.
5. Cables (wired cameras)Try another Ethernet cable and another LAN port on the router.
6. ResetIf nothing else works, hard reset the camera and set it up again.

Router settings Reolink cameras need

Reolink lists these requirements for all its Wi-Fi cameras (Reolink: Wi-Fi network requirements, Reolink: Connection to the router failed):

How to set up a Reolink Wi-Fi camera

Install the latest Reolink App, power on the camera and keep it near the router for setup (Reolink: Set up battery-powered Wi-Fi cameras). The method depends on the model:

Camera typeHow Wi-Fi is set upSource
Battery cameras (Argus, Duo battery, battery doorbell and others)Tap the add icon, scan the QR code on the camera, choose to configure Wi-Fi by QR code, enter the Wi-Fi password, then hold your phone about 20 cm (8 in) in front of the lens so the camera can scan the code on screen. Wait about 60 seconds for “Connection to the router succeeded”, then create a login password and name the camera. Turn on the power switch first, except on Argus 2 and Argus Pro.Reolink: Set up battery-powered Wi-Fi cameras
Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port and voice prompt (E1 Outdoor, E1 Outdoor Pro, TrackMix WiFi, Video Doorbell WiFi and others)Either the same QR-code method, or plug the camera into a router LAN port, add it in the app, choose Network Cable Connection, set a password, then pick your Wi-Fi network and tap Save.Reolink: Set up Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port and voice prompt
Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port and no voice prompt (many RLC-…W models, Duo WiFi models)Power the camera with its adapter, connect it to the router with Ethernet, add it in the app, set a password, then choose your Wi-Fi network and tap Save.Reolink: Set up Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port, no voice prompt

After setting up Wi-Fi with a cable, unplug the cable: Reolink notes the camera keeps using the wired connection until you do. Check the Wi-Fi icon or the Wi-Fi section in the camera’s settings to confirm (Reolink: Set up Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port, no voice prompt).

“Connection to the router failed”

Reolink’s checklist when the camera’s voice prompt reports a failed router connection (Reolink: Connection to the router failed, Reolink: Why won’t my camera connect to Wi-Fi):

  1. Check the password on your phone. Forget the network on your phone and rejoin it with the same password. Don’t confuse the router’s admin password with the Wi-Fi password. Passwords are case-sensitive, and Reolink warns that some Android phones add a space at the end.
  2. Tighten the antennas on models that have them.
  3. Move the camera closer to the router and try again.
  4. Use Ethernet for setup on cameras with a LAN port, then switch to Wi-Fi.
  5. Check the router against the requirements above, and turn off MAC filtering and parental controls.
  6. Try a phone hotspot. If the camera joins a hotspot or another router, the problem is the original router’s settings (Reolink: Connect a camera to a phone hotspot).

For a Reolink doorbell that reports a network failure, Reolink says to check power: use the original adapter or one rated 24 V DC or 12–24 V AC, and if you use a transformer, 16 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 30 VA (Reolink: Connection to the router failed).

Camera keeps disconnecting

For cameras that drop off often, Reolink suggests (Reolink: Camera connection issues):

Camera typeReolink’s steps
All camerasSwitch live view to Low (Fluent); try mobile data or another phone or computer; tighten antennas; restore or reset the camera; update to the latest firmware.
Battery Wi-Fi camerasMove the camera closer to the router or use a signal booster; restart the camera and router (Reolink suggests resetting the router if possible); test with another router or a phone hotspot.
PoE camerasTry a known-good PoE port and another cable; restart the camera and router; temporarily turn off router antivirus, firewall, MAC filtering or VPN; test with other devices disconnected.
4G battery camerasUse a carrier Reolink recommends for your country, check signal strength, and try removing the microSD card.

Changing your Wi-Fi network

If the camera is still online, open it in the Reolink App, tap the settings icon, go to More Features, then Wi-Fi, and choose the new network (Reolink: Change Wi-Fi on a camera). If the camera is already offline because the old network is gone, connect it with Ethernet if it has a port and change Wi-Fi from there (Reolink: Set up Wi-Fi cameras with a LAN port and voice prompt), or reset it and set it up again.

Hard reset: last resort

Reset methods differ by model, and Reolink keeps a page that points to the right one for each series (Reolink: Hard reset with the reset button). Reolink notes that a reset restores factory settings and unlinks cloud services and smart home integrations, but does not erase recordings.

Reolink cameras and Wi-Fi to keep them online

Details come from Reolink’s support center and the Amazon listings. When we checked on October 23, 2026, both Reolink products below were in stock as new items sold by ReolinkDirect, Reolink’s own Amazon store, and the eero system was sold by Amazon.com.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Reolink camera offline?

Reolink’s order of checks: confirm power (IR lights or spotlight on in the dark), rule out your phone or network by trying mobile data or another device, switch to Fluent stream mode, restart the camera and router, check Ethernet cables, and reset as a last resort.

Why won’t my Reolink camera connect to Wi-Fi?

The most common causes Reolink lists are a wrong Wi-Fi name or password, router settings such as MAC filtering or AP isolation, a weak signal and an unsupported band. Test the password on your phone, move the camera closer and try a phone hotspot.

Do Reolink cameras work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Many do, but some models are 2.4 GHz only, including E1, Argus 2, Argus 3, Argus PT Lite and Argus Eco. Reolink’s Wi-Fi requirements page has the full list.

What does “Connection to the router failed” mean?

The camera could not join your Wi-Fi after scanning the setup QR code. Reolink suggests rechecking the password, tightening antennas, moving closer, setting up over Ethernet if the camera has a port and testing with a phone hotspot.

How do I change the Wi-Fi network on a Reolink camera?

While the camera is online, open it in the Reolink App and go to settings, More Features, Wi-Fi, then pick the new network. If it is already offline, use Ethernet on models with a port, or reset it and set it up again.

Does resetting a Reolink camera delete recordings?

Reolink says a hard reset does not erase recordings, but it restores factory settings, unlinks cloud and smart home integrations and sets the login back to admin with no password.

What power does a Reolink Video Doorbell need?

For network failures on a doorbell, Reolink says to use the original adapter or one rated 24 V DC or 12–24 V AC, or a 16 V AC, 50/60 Hz, 30 VA transformer.

Can I use a Wi-Fi extender with a Reolink camera?

Yes. Reolink lists Wi-Fi extenders, home routers, 4G/5G routers and hotspots without a web sign-in page as supported.
