Best Robot Vacuums with Matter
Matter lets a robot vacuum show up in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant alongside the rest of your smart home, so you can start a clean from a routine or send the robot back to its dock with a voice command. But Matter does not replace the brand app, and what each platform shows varies by robot and firmware. This guide explains what Matter control really covers, what your Wi-Fi needs, and four robot vacuums whose makers document Matter support. Specs come from the makers and current Amazon listings, checked October 23, 2026.

What Matter control actually gives you
Robot vacuums became a Matter device type in Matter 1.2, released in late 2023. The standard defines a short list of controls that every platform can understand:
- Start, stop, pause, resume and return to dock. These are the core controls every Matter robot vacuum offers.
- Status: whether the robot is cleaning, paused, returning, charging or docked, plus basic error states. Battery level is commonly shown as well.
- Run and cleaning modes (optional): for example vacuum only, mop only, or vacuum and mop. Some robots also expose suction or water level as modes.
- Room selection (optional, Matter 1.4): choose which mapped rooms to clean. The rooms come from the map you built in the brand app.
What stays in the brand app: mapping and map editing, no-go and no-mop zones, carpet settings, obstacle and camera features, dock settings such as mop washing and drying, consumable and maintenance reminders, firmware updates and most schedules. Plan to keep the brand app installed even if you use Matter every day.
Platform support varies
The same robot can show different controls on different platforms. SwitchBot publishes a clear example for its S10 floor cleaner: Apple Home can run whole-home or specific-room cleaning, switch modes, change suction and mop water level, pause and send it to charge. Google Home lists the same except room cleaning and pausing, SmartThings lists room cleaning but not mode or water changes, and Home Assistant lists only whole-home cleaning and recharging.
- Apple Home: robot vacuum support arrived with iOS 18.4. You need an Apple home hub (HomePod or Apple TV) for automations and remote control.
- Google Home: Google lists the Matter robot vacuum device type as supported; check the maker's notes for which controls appear.
- Amazon Alexa and SmartThings: robot makers list both among their Matter platforms, with features depending on the robot.
- Home Assistant: supports Matter robot vacuums through its Matter integration; controls may be more limited than the maker's own integration.

Wi-Fi and hub needs
Every robot in this guide joins Matter over Wi-Fi, not Thread, so you do not need a Thread border router for it. You do need:
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi coverage where the dock sits. The Roborock and SwitchBot picks support 2.4GHz only; the Roomba Max 705 series also supports 5GHz. Robots roam the whole floor, so weak spots at the far end of the home can interrupt cleaning or map uploads. A mesh Wi-Fi system can help.
- Your phone, the robot and your Matter hub on the same network during setup. Avoid guest networks, which often block the local discovery Matter relies on.
- A Matter controller for the platform you use: an Apple home hub, a Google or Amazon smart speaker or display that supports Matter, a SmartThings hub, or Home Assistant. See our Matter hub guide.
- Current firmware. Matter support usually arrives in robot firmware updates, so update the robot in the brand app before adding it.
How we chose
We only included robots whose makers state Matter support on a product page, support article or firmware announcement, and we noted which platforms each maker names. We looked for self-emptying docks, LiDAR mapping and room-based cleaning in the brand app. Every linked product was checked on Amazon in the US on October 23, 2026, as sold by Amazon or the brand. We have not tested these products ourselves.

Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: best full-featured dock
Roborock was one of the first robot vacuum makers to ship Matter, and it lists Matter support on the Qrevo Edge 2's US product page. It is a full vacuum-and-mop robot with a dock that empties the bin, washes the mops with hot water, dries them with warm air and refills the robot.
- Cleaning: Roborock lists 25,000 Pa suction, a dual anti-tangle brush system and a FlexiArm side brush that reaches out for edges and corners, plus obstacle avoidance that recognizes more than 280 object types.
- Low furniture: a 3.14-inch body with a retracting LiDAR sensor, so it can reach under low beds and sofas.
- Smart home: Matter, plus Alexa, Siri and Google Home through the Roborock app. Roborock says Matter features vary by device and by platform.
- Consider: the Amazon listing says it supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. The dock is large, 13.4 x 19.2 x 20.5 inches by Roborock's spec. Roborock has not published a per-platform list of Matter controls for this model, so check its app notes.

SwitchBot K11+ Pro: best for small apartments
The K11+ Pro is a compact LiDAR robot, about 9.8 inches across and 3.6 inches tall, with a small self-emptying dock and a 4L dust bag. SwitchBot's setup guide covers adding it straight to Apple Home with its Matter code or the QR code on the robot, without a SwitchBot hub.
- Cleaning: SwitchBot lists up to 12,000 Pa suction, LiDAR navigation, and sensors for obstacles and stairs. The 4L dock bag holds up to about 90 days of debris, by SwitchBot's estimate.
- Smart home: SwitchBot lists Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and Home Assistant. Its Apple Home setup needs a HomePod or Apple TV home hub on iOS 18.4 or later.
- Matter 1.4: SwitchBot says the K11+ line supports room selection and cleaning mode changes in Apple Home.
- Consider: mopping is a light wipe with a disposable wet pad, not a scrubbing mop. 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, and SwitchBot's guide asks for your phone, hub and robot to be on the same 2.4GHz network during setup.

SwitchBot S20: best documented Matter controls
The S20 supports Matter 1.4, which adds room selection, and SwitchBot is unusually open about what each platform can do. It is a vacuum and roller-mop robot with a dock that empties the bin, washes the mop and dries it with warm air.
- Matter controls: SwitchBot's support article for its S10 and S20 floor cleaners lists room cleaning, mode changes, suction and mop water level in Apple Home, with fewer controls in Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant (see the platform section above). The detailed table on that page is written for the S10, so confirm in the SwitchBot app.
- Cleaning: SwitchBot lists 10,000 Pa suction and a self-cleaning roller mop, and the dock dries the mop with 50°C hot air. The 4L dust bag holds up to about 90 days of debris, by SwitchBot's estimate.
- Water: the dock has a 2.7L clean water tank and a 2.5L dirty water tank, and SwitchBot sells an optional Water Station for automatic refill and drain.
- Consider: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, and the dock is much larger than the K11+ Pro's.

iRobot Roomba Max 705 Combo: best for Apple Home households
iRobot lists the Roomba Max 700 series among its Matter-compatible robots, and Apple Home is the only Matter platform it currently certifies. If you live in Apple Home, that is a plus: iRobot lists cleaning, battery, directed room cleaning and location status among the features you get there.
- Cleaning: ClearView LiDAR mapping, PrecisionVision AI obstacle avoidance and a roller mop, per the Amazon listing.
- Dock: the AutoWash dock empties debris for up to 75 days and washes and dries the roller mop with heat.
- Wi-Fi: iRobot lists the Max 705 series as working on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
- Consider: Matter here is for Apple Home only, set up from the Connected Services menu of the Roomba Home app; it needs iOS 18.4 or later and an Apple home hub. iRobot was acquired by Picea in January 2026 and says its app, support and warranties continue.

Other Matter robot vacuums
Several other makers list Matter support. Roborock's April 2025 firmware announcement covered the S8 MaxV Ultra, Saros Z70, Saros 10, Saros 10R, Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge and Qrevo Master. iRobot also lists the Roomba Plus 500 Combo and Roomba Combo 10 Max. If you already own one of these, update its firmware and check the maker's app for a Matter setup option before buying anything new.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Matter robot vacuum still need the brand app?
Yes. You set up the robot, build its map and name its rooms in the maker's app, and that is also where you set no-go zones, carpet behavior, dock routines and maintenance reminders. Matter then shares a smaller set of controls, such as start, pause, return to dock, cleaning mode and, on some models, room selection, with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant.
Can I pick which rooms to clean through Matter?
Sometimes. Room selection uses an optional part of Matter added in version 1.4, so it depends on both the robot's firmware and your platform. SwitchBot, for example, lists room cleaning in Apple Home and SmartThings but not in Google Home or Home Assistant. Rooms must already exist on the map in the maker's app.
Do Matter robot vacuums use Thread?
Not the models in this guide. They connect to Matter over your home Wi-Fi, so they do not need a Thread border router. You still need a Matter controller, such as an Apple home hub, a Google or Amazon smart speaker or display that supports Matter, a SmartThings hub, or Home Assistant.
Will a robot vacuum connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi?
Most will not. The Roborock and SwitchBot picks here list 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. iRobot lists the Roomba Max 705 series as working on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. If your router combines both bands under one network name, a 2.4GHz-only robot usually still connects, but some routers need the bands split temporarily during setup.
What do I need for a robot vacuum in Apple Home?
An iPhone on iOS 18.4 or later to add the robot, and an Apple home hub, such as a HomePod or Apple TV, for automations and control away from home. SwitchBot lists iOS 18.5 or later for its full feature set. Add the robot with the Matter code from the maker's app or the QR code on the robot.
Can I use more than one platform at once?
Matter allows one device to join several platforms, so you can often add the same robot to Apple Home and Home Assistant, for example. Each platform shows its own subset of controls, and iRobot currently certifies only Apple Home for its Matter robots.
